Bradford Council’s Youth Ambassadors, working alongside the Domestic Abuse & Sexual Violence team, the Safety of Women and Girls programme, and Bradford Youth Service, launched five powerful “Just don’t” films that pull no punches. These youth‑led films boldly call out the everyday behaviours that make women and girls feel unsafe:
- Catcalling
- Online abuse
- Boundary crossing
- Harassment
- Consent
To support professionals working with young people aged 13+, the films are accompanied by a full resource pack and presentation materials, all available here: https://bradford-dasv.co.uk/get-information/advice-for-young-people/
Supported by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of West Yorkshire, what makes this project especially powerful is that it has been entirely co‑produced by young people for young people with support from our council’s DASV and SOWG teams.
Drawing on their own experiences to highlight what many women and girls face daily, and often silently, the creative launch event is a huge step forward to start shifting mindsets, and challenging harmful behaviours among peers and across our communities.
Anisia, a Youth Ambassador and Co-Director of the films said:
‘Bradford Council’s Youth Ambassadors created these five films to make our voices impossible to ignore. Drawing on our own experiences, we wanted to expose the everyday reality of harassment faced by women and girls. We’re raising awareness and calling out harmful behaviours, especially among our peers, because the truth is, far too many of us are scared and no woman or girl should ever have to live in fear. We are exceptionally proud of this project and hope it will be used far and wide.’
